Abarth stars on and off the track
A great day for Abarth, who celebrates both the Yamaha double podium finish in United States as well as the excellent European sales semester (+ 50%) against the same period in 2014
Another new triumph for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team on the Indianapolis track (United States): riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi came second and third respectively. The double wins scored by the many-times champions in the FIM MotoGP Championship has now gone up to three. The standings continues to see them very close: Valentino Rossi leads with 195 points and Jorge Lorenzo is second with 186 points.
The two riders saw the chequered flag in the seat of the two YZR-M1, which from this year are also sporting the Scorpion logo. The Abarth brand has always been the byword of competitive spirit in the automotive industry, and for two years the brand is to be Official Sponsor and Official Car Supplier of the FIM MotoGP Championship team with official riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. The two-year sponsorship agreement includes the supply of various FCA vehicles worldwide.
With a record of 6 world championships won since 2004, the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team is one of the most successful in the world. Likewise, Abarth proves to be the car brand that most of all can communicate the real essence of race circuits, in addition to sharing the values of sportsmanship and a desire to excel existing both in the DNA of the Scorpion and of the protagonists of the two-wheels world.
Just like the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team is having a successful season, the Abarth brand registered an excellent semester in Europe: indeed, sales have gone up 50% against the same period in 2014. The most popular models - around 500 orders were placed during the first six months of 2015 - include the Abarth 695 Biposto, the brand's modern icon which is the ideal combination of road cars and racing cars, entails the "transfer" of the racing spirit to an everyday car: 190 HP 1.4 T-jet engine, 997 kg weight, 5.2 kg/HP weight to power ratio and acceleration from 0-100km/h in 5.9''.
All Abarth enthusiasts can visit any of the Abarth showrooms across Europe to admire and test drive the entire range, which affords various levels of performance and technological contents. Starting with the 140 HP Custom, or the 160 HP Turismo version, or the brand new 180 HP Competizione and last but not least the concept of performance "in its purest form" with the 190 HP 695 Biposto.
