The Red Bull Ring in Austria plays host to the third heat of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth

  • This weekend, the F4 single-seaters, fitted with the Abarth engine, take on one of the most spectacular circuits in Formula 1
  • Two Italians, Francesco Pizzi and Gabriele Minì, are the top two in the rankings

This weekend, the third heat of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth will take to the stage at the Red Bull Ring, a spectacular circuit in Austria. The race will be run by 30 young drivers, representing 18 nations, behind the wheel of agile, high-performance single-seaters powered by the Abarth engine.

After the first 6 races at the first 2 events, the championship standings are wide open, with Francesco Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing) leading the pack by only 2 points, ahead of Gabriele Minì (Prema Powerteam).  This is the first year – since the first edition in 2014 – that Italian drivers are the big stars of this series with a strong international focus, having won 4 of the 6 races run so far.

One success each for Pizzi and Minì (both at Misano Adriatico) and two for Andrea Rosso (one at Misano, the other at Imola), now in fourth place in the overall championship standings. The other two races, at Imola, saw victories for Romania’s Ugran, currently 3rd in the standings, and the Briton Jonny Edgar, now fifth in the rankings.

The large number of participants in the race at the Red Bull Ring will make the Austrian stage even more spectacular than usual, with around 10 drivers who can aspire to success. The schedule for the weekend in Austria includes two practice sessions on Friday, September 11th and the official qualifying rounds at 8:30 am on Saturday 12th. Race1 will be held the same day, at 12:30 pm. The other two heats are scheduled for Sunday 13th at 10:30 am and 3:05 pm.

For 7 seasons, Abarth has been supporting the series dedicated to young drivers from karting, aged 15 to 18, who want to grow professionally and competitively in the fantastic world of motorsport and, above all, want to gain experience driving Formula cars.
