The new Fiat Panda Van has arrived

The new Fiat Panda Van has arrived

      •     Compact external dimensions and a load compartment at the top of its category: approx. 1 m³ volume and over 1.2 metres max. internal length

       •     It introduces the brand new, innovative "easy floor" platform which eliminates any difference in height between the load compartment and the lower edge of the tailgate, thus facilitating loading operations

       •     Available with front wheel drive, two trim levels (Pop and Easy) and two engines (69 HP 1.2 and 1.3 MultiJet 75 HP). Prices start from 8,850 euro (before tax)

       •     Also making its debut is Fiat Professional's new "Van" logo created by Fiat Centro Stile

To meet urban goods transport needs, Fiat Professional presents the new Panda Van - following on from the best seller of segment 1A of Car-Derived Vans - which combines car-standard performance, handling and comfort with great load capacity and ease of loading, in addition to the reliability and low running costs typical of a commercial vehicle.

Built at the Gianbattista Vico plant at Pomigliano d'Arco in Naples, the most compact commercial vehicle by Fiat Professional is the ideal solution for those who spend a lot of time travelling and have to make deliveries, such as postal services, maintenance workers, service companies, tradesmen, etc.

At launch, the range will offer a choice of two trim levels (Pop 2-seater and Easy 4-seater versions), both available with front wheel drive and two engines: the 75 HP 1.3-litre 16v MultiJet turbodiesel and the 69 HP 1.2-litre Fire petrol engine. In Italy, prices start from 8,850 euro (before tax) for the Panda Van Pop 69 HP 1.2-litre Fire, rising to 11,700 euro (before tax) for the Panda Van Easy 75 HP 1.3-litre 16v MultiJet.

Original style and compact external dimensions

The new Panda Van sports modern, distinctive design that combines dynamism and compactness with the solidity and robustness of a working vehicle. The compact external dimensions - it is 3.65 m. in length, 1.64 m. in width and 1.55 m. high - allow it to tackle any city centre with confidence, thanks also to a turning circle of just 9.3 metres.

The front and rear bumpers, embossed black as standard for the 2-seater version (matching body colour on request) make the Panda Van more like a small commercial vehicle. The tinted rear windows (standard on the 2-seater version) guarantee greater privacy and security for goods carried in the load compartment.  And on the matter of security, options include a "load compartment roller cover" - available from October - which totally conceals loaded goods.

Completing the offer is a wide range of body colours: 9 exterior colours and a list of non-standard colours in keeping with the requirements of large fleets. The interiors too are available in 2 versions combined with 2 different seat fabrics.

Lastly, the latest Fiat Centro Stile creation making its debut appearance on the model is the "Van" logo which sums up the values of this product range: "clean and simple", it expresses "practicality and versatility" with its original symmetrical design. In short, this small logo conveys the power of design as the notion of making "useful things attractive, too": a value that characterizes the entire Fiat Professional range.

Spacious, functional load compartment

Despite its compact external dimensions, the new Panda boasts a spacious, rational load compartment - the volume is approximately 1 m³ (for the 2-seater version) while the maximum internal length can extend to over 1.2 metres - featuring use of the innovative new "easy floor" platform.

Indeed, with the new Panda Van, Fiat Professional overcomes the intrinsic limits of small "car-derived" commercial vehicles, introducing for the first time this new solution which eliminates the difference in height between the load compartment and the lower edge of the tailgate, thus facilitating loading operations just like a "real" commercial vehicle. At the same time, the easy floor provides ample space below the platform, perfect for keeping valuable items safe from prying eyes. What's more, the space below can be accessed with the greatest of ease by simply lifting up the platform, and the latter can be secured in the open position if desired by means of a hook on the partition.

Another new design feature of the load compartment is the floor, made of honeycomb plastic which guarantees improved performance in terms of resilience, duration and sound absorption, as well as ensuring reduced weight and greater eco-friendliness (the previous Panda Van utilized plywood). In addition, again compared to the previous model, the new Panda Van delivers both improved access from the tailgate - for example, the parcel shelf has been reduced in size - and improved protection of inner side panels in the load compartment thanks to the use of a covering in needle-punched felt.  The compartment features a light positioned on the roof panel as standard and, on request, a further removable side light can be fitted, also designed for use as a torch, which charges when connected to its fixed support.

Lastly, further emphasizing its vocation as a commercial vehicle, new Panda Van offers a robust partition to protect the driver and passengers from any possible intrusion of goods into the cab. Two types of partition panel are available - one specifically for the 2-seater version and another for the 4-seater version - in addition to the use of four robust rings for securing goods in compliance with DIN 75410-2 standard.

The passenger compartment, meanwhile, retains all the unique features of the "car" version of the Panda, offering that pleasing practicality considered essential by those who also use the cab as a "travelling office". Panda Van customers also benefit from the attention lavished on ergonomics, acoustic, climatic and vibrational comfort and a whole host of features available on request, including the modern audio-telematic system which includes radio with Cd/Mp3 player and Bluetooth hands-free kit (Blue&me).

Efficient, reliable engines for any mission

The new Panda Van is also synonymous with "efficiency and productivity" which for customers equates to particularly low running costs (fuel consumption, intervals between services and repair costs), coupled with good pick-up and flexibility at low speeds, even with a full load. This is thanks to the two Euro 5 engines available: the 69 HP 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 75 HP 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel.

In particular, the 1.3-litre 16v MultiJet - the smallest and most advanced second generation "Common Rail" direct injection diesel engine - delivers significant reductions in fuel consumption (3.9 l/100 km in the NEDC combined cycle as opposed to 4.2 l/100 km for the previous generation) and, consequently, in emissions (a CO2 value of just 104 g/km, against 109 g/km for the previous model).

Combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the turbodiesel delivers a maximum power of 75 HP (55 kW at 4000 rpm) and a torque of 19.4 kgm (190 Nm at 1500 rpm) with excellent performance: the top speed is 168 km/h.

Compact and technologically sophisticated, the 1.3-litre 16v MultiJet is also an environmentally friendly engine thanks to innovative exhaust gas treatment solutions such as the Close Coupled Diesel Particulate Filter and a built-in EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system that improves control of temperature and gas flow, simultaneously guaranteeing lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption. In addition, the 75 HP 1.3-litre MultiJet in the new Panda Van offers the Start&Stop device as standard. This switches the engine off temporarily and restarts it again in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Completing the range of engines is the 69 HP 1.2-litre EVO II, the latest evolution in the FIRE family which boasts over 10 million units produced. The engine has been developed with particular attention to performance and fuel consumption, as demonstrated by a maximum power of 69 HP at 5500 rpm and torque of 102 Nm at 3000 rpm. Combined with a manual 5-speed gearbox, the engine is lively (top speed is 164 km/h) but at the same time economical: in the NEDC combined cycle, consumption is 5.2 l/100km with just 120 g/km of CO2.

In the coming months the Panda Van range will be expanded with the introduction of the 4x4 versions - available with an 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine, a 75 HP 1.3-litre MultiJet 16V - as well as an 80 HP bi-fuel 0.9 TwinAir Turbo Natural Power (petrol/methane) and a 69 HP 1.2-litre EasyPower (petrol/LPG). In particular, the four wheel drive with automatic engagement will enable Panda Van to cater to the needs of those users - for example fleets - required to guarantee transport and mobility services in all conditions. In addition, testifying to Fiat Professional's unwavering attention to sustainable urban mobility, the bi-fuel versions of Panda Van overcome the typical compromises of such engines thanks to the "easy floor" solution which ensures the vehicle has the same load capacity as the original version: a volume of 1000 m³.

Robust suspension and category-leading capacity

The new Panda can rely on a robust, tried and tested suspension configuration: MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear, which guarantee excellent dynamic behaviour and superb road-holding. The special tuning, specifically for the Van version, with permitted loads of up to 855 kg on the front axle and up to 780 kg on the rear, allows a payload including driver at the very top of the category: up to 500 kg. This performance, combined with the characteristics of the load compartment, allows us to affirm that new Panda Van is not merely a car-derived vehicle, but a "genuine" compact commercial vehicle. All this without overlooking driving satisfaction, which has always been one of the fortes of the Fiat Professional range.

Best-in-class safety

When it comes to safety, new Panda Van is once again at the top end of its category. This is evident in the great quantity of standard equipment which, in addition to an advanced braking system with ABS complete with B.A.S. (Brake Assist System), includes 4 airbags as standard (front and side), plus front seat belts with pretensioner and load limiter. Plus, depending on the markets and versions, the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is available as standard or on request, complete with a Hill-holder system that helps the driver during hill starts by keeping the brakes locked for about 2 seconds, making moving off easier.

Practicality and attention to detail for maximum wellbeing on board

The new generation Panda guarantees the utmost comfort, whatever the journey or mission to be accomplished. Thanks, for example, to the extensive glazed areas that guarantee excellent all-round visibility. In the same way the comfortable, snug seats are equipped with numerous adjustment options that enable any driver to find the most comfortable and correct driving position, thanks also to the height and reach-adjustable steering wheel and adjustable "active" front headrests which lessen the effects of whiplash in the event of a collision.

The numerous storage compartments are ideal for stowing personal effects and work documents; in particular, the new dashboard contains a large, practical "storage pocket" over and above the classic glove compartment in the bottom of the dashboard. Another stylistic and functional feature of the new Panda which is even more useful in the Van version is the distinctive shape of the parking brake which, with its reduced longitudinal dimensions, allows the space in front of and behind the lever to be exploited, in addition to freeing up space directly underneath it. In short, all these features taken together transform the Panda Van passenger cab into a veritable place of work
