Giusy Buscemi and Fiat Panda: Miss Italia 2012 meets “Miss Europe”

Yesterday, the first day dedicated to the international press, the Paris Motor Show had a truly special encounter in store. Giusy Buscemi, Miss Italia 2012, was on the Fiat stand cum catwalk together with the new Panda, the leading car in segment A in Europe, which is presenting three important developments at the show: the 4×4, Trekking and Natural Power versions. This makes the range by far the largest, most versatile in the category, comprising six engine versions, three drive versions, three transmissions, five trim levels, 12 colours and 13 interiors, resulting in more than 850 possible combinations.

Presented at the end of 2011, the new Panda is the natural development of a best seller which has seen 6.4 million vehicles sold in its 31-year lifetime. Today, the model comes of age in this third generation, offering more quality in terms of space, comfort, functionality, technology and safety features.  All of this is made even more attractive by the modern and harmonious lines, to further enhance the Panda's winning character, which has become a part of our collective memory, just like Miss Italia, the beauty pageant that crowns the most beautiful girl in the country every year.

The 19-year-old Sicilian Giusy Buscemi was 2012's winner. A film-lover, she hopes to become an actress one day. Fiat took part at the prestigious event, as sponsor and official car, providing a fleet of Pandas to accompany the contestants. Fiat sponsorship also led to the institution of the 'Miss Fiat Smile' prize, the first prize awarded in the pageant which dates to 1939.

Beautiful, Italian and full of character: that's how Miss Italia and Fiat's super-compact presented themselves to the international press yesterday in Paris. The captivating Giusy Buscemi made her entrance to the catwalk set up at the centre of the Fiat stand aboard the new Panda 4×4, the only four-wheel drive model in segment A. A genuine "Super Panda", ready to tackle mountain mule tracks and the urban jungle with the same cool. In addition to standard equipment able to satisfy the most demanding of customers, from a technical point of view, the new Panda 4×4 improves itself once again and reasserts its admirable capacity to compete with off-road cars of much greater dimensions (as well as much higher prices).

Flaunting the most comprehensive and versatile range in the category, the Trekking and Natural Power versions are also strutting the Paris catwalk. The first is the link between the 4×2 and the 4×4 version, combining off-road looks with smart front-wheel drive thanks to Traction+ technology. This is an innovative traction control system, which improves handling on slippery terrain, guaranteeing excellent performance when setting off.

There is also the new Panda Natural Power equipped with a dual-fuel (methane and petrol) 80 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine to combine all the running cost and eco-friendly advantages of methane with Turbo TwinAir technology for excellent fuel consumption, emission and performance values. The Panda Natural Power delivers 14% more power, 34% more torque and 20% less CO2 (only 86 g/km) than the previous model.
