After a year of significant commercial success, Jeep returns to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with three European premières: the new 2014 Grand Cherokee, the new 2014 Jeep Compass and the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition special-edition model. The three Geneva reveals represent a further expression of the brand's constant evolution in terms of innovation, technological contents and performance.

2012 was a year of significant growth for Jeep, both in terms of sales and brand image. Jeep was one of the brands boasting the most consistent growth in Europe, with sales growing by almost 20%. A result that also allowed Jeep to set a new all-time global sales record by selling over 700,000 vehicles last year worldwide.

The 1056 square metres Jeep exhibition area in Geneva is located in hall 5. An extreme sandy off-road track and a modern urban skyline are the background chosen to communicate to the visitors the extraordinary dynamic characteristics that belong to Jeep SUVs and their ability to express their personality in the most diverse environments: in the city as well as on challenging off-road trails.

The new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the star of the Jeep stand in Geneva. Already the most awarded Large SUV ever, Grand Cherokee features a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Available on the entire engine lineup, the new transmission significantly reduces consumption and emissions while improving acceleration and securing smoother gear shifting.

New exterior and interior design features characterize each single trim level of the Jeep flagship in a unique way. News for the exterior include new bi-xenon headlamps offered as standard and boasting LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a new design for the wheels and new interior/exterior colour combinations. The use of premium materials, such as Natura Plus leather and high-quality wood as well as the introduction of a new three-spoke steering wheel deliver an exclusive character to the interior.

New contents are also offered in terms of infotainment, thanks to the new, advanced UConnect system with 8.4" touchscreen and the all-new for the brand 7" TFT customer configurable display cluster.

Legendary Jeep capability comes courtesy of two four-wheel drive systems (Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), the Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension and the Selec-Terrain traction management system.

The new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers the most advanced safety features, including updated Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation and all-new Selec-Speed Control: both complement the vehicle's already rich array of standard active and passive safety system.

Equipped with a new six-speed PowerTech automatic transmission, Jeep Compass boasts an updated exterior and a new, even more refined and comfortable cabin. Thanks to the smooth shifting allowed by the new gearbox, the 2014 Jeep Compass delivers improved driving performance. The new Jeep Compass also offers new safety features, including front-seat-mounted side air bags and ParkView rear backup camera and a rich array of features for increased on board comfort when driving in the city and on off-road trails.

Standard features include air conditioning, power/heated exterior mirrors, fog lamps, keyless entry, Cruise Control, a removable/rechargeable light, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Hill-start Assist, anti-lock disc brakes and 60/40 fold-flat rear seat. The new 2014 Jeep Compass will be introduced across Europe in the second half of 2013 in three different trim levels, including the already existing Sport and Limited and the all-new North model.

New eight-speed automatic transmission

Chrysler Group's new eight-speed automatic transmission debuts on the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine as well as on the V-6 and V-8 petrol engine offerings. New transmission ensures reduced consumption and emissions, while delivering quicker acceleration, a more precise and smooth shifting and also enhancing ride quality to new levels. Fitted for the first time on a Jeep model, the new eight-speed automatic transmission also enhances Grand Cherokee's ride quality to new levels. Several individual shift maps adapt to specific driving conditions to optimize shift quality. Its intelligent software takes into account variables including acceleration, engine torque gradients, kick-down events and travelling speed to determine the appropriate shift map. The result is automatic shifting ideally attuned to the performance requirements of almost any driving demand with an eye to fuel economy.

New Eco Mode

A further contributor to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's improved fuel economy is the new Eco Mode, which optimises gear shifting and, in V-8 models, Fuel Saver cylinder deactivation. If sportier performance is desired, a button on the center stack allows driver to disengage. In addition, Eco Mode activates Quadra-Lift air suspension system, if fitted, to further enhance the vehicle's aerodynamics, for optimum efficiency.

New design

Exteriors

For 2014, the Jeep Grand Cherokee receives an updated style: all trim levels have been given a more premium look and are readily recognisable at a glance. On all models, the signature seven-slot grille is shorter in height, the headlights are slimmer and the lower front fascia has been slightly elevated while the fog lights have been raised and are more pronounced. Together, these changes give the front of the Grand Cherokee a more elegant, sportier appearance while still preserving Jeep's signature features.

The rear has also received changes and boasts new, larger tail lamps with LED lighting, a larger and more aerodynamic rear spoiler, new bumpers and a re-sculpted tailgate that offers greater visibility. Lower rear fascias are now model-specific, and dual exhaust tips are standard on all Limited, Overland and Summit models

The following features complete the new design elements equipped on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee: standard on all trim levels new high-intensity discharge bi-xenon headlamps (adaptive on Summit) with LED daytime running lights, new design of the wheels and new interior/exterior colour combinations that further enhance the Jeep flagship's image of quality.

Interiors

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors are enhanced thanks to the use of high quality materials and model-specific colour combinations. The center stack has been revised and features a new UConnect 8.4" touchscreen. Controls for radio and climate are found below the screen and have knobs and buttons which are easy to identify and to use. The centre console reveals a new leather-wrapped electronic shifter for the eight-speed transmission. Another new feature of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the new three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel featuring sections of fine wood on Overland and Summit models. Optimised in terms of driving position, it features buttons for managing radio, cruise control, telephone and voice commands in complete safety. All trim levels come with paddle shifters mounted on the back of the steering wheel as standard.

Each model of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has its own unique style, thanks to the adoption of specific materials and colour patterns. Laredo and Limited, for instance, feature dark wood trim on the dash and doors. The aluminium door handle and dash vent bezels, like the trim on the centre console, feature a slight gold hue. Premium cloth seating is standard on Laredo, while Capri leather seating is standard on Limited.

Standard equipment of the Overland model includes a contrasting stitched-leather instrument panel and wood accents. Wood trim is also found on the top portion of the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The now more exclusive Grand Cherokee Summit is the new top-of-the-range model and offers the highest level of quality, featuring Premium Natura-Plus leather seats and an exclusive suede-like material covering the front pillars and the headliner.

All systems ensure Jeep legendary off-road capabilities.

Selec-Terrain traction control system

The class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system with five different driving programs has been refined on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Standard on all Grand Cherokee models, Selec-Terrain has been enhanced through the introduction of the new Selec-Speed Control, in combination with the Off road package, which allows the driver to control the speed of the vehicle, both uphill and downhill, using the steering wheel paddle shifters instead of requiring the use of the accelerator or brake pedals.

In addition, the Sport Mode, found on the Selec-Terrain controller of the 2013 models, is now engaged via the shift lever to provide improved on-road 'fun-to-drive' capability.

Even more safety

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers state-of-the-art safety and security features that further highlight, that technological innovation belongs to the DNA of the Jeep flagship.

In addition to the standard safety equipment, the new 2014 model offers upgraded Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation and new Selec-Speed Control with Hill-Ascent Control and Hill-Descent Control, assisting the drivers with climbing and ascending steep grades.

Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation: the device that uses radar sensors to check whether the vehicle is approaching the car in front too rapidly and, if necessary, sends a signal to the driver so that he can intervene to avoid a collision. The system is now updated to brake automatically and hold brake pressure for 1.5 seconds if the driver does not immediately take the corrective action necessary to prevent the collision with the cars in front. The system is standard on Overland and Summit.

New Selec-Speed Control: the device operates with the Hill-Ascent Control and the Hill-Descent Control functions to allow the driver to control the speed of the vehicle, both uphill and downhill, using the steering wheel paddle shifters instead of requiring the use of the accelerator or brake pedals.

New technologies in terms of infotainment

The standard equipment for on-board comfort and infotainment delivers customers an array of innovative advanced technologies that aim at transforming every journey in an absolute pleasure. The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with the new UConnect system, featuring an 8.4" touchscreen which shows, clearly and directly, all information necessary for driving and on-board comfort.

In addition, in order to grant maximum safety and ease of use, both audio and connectivity controls on the spokes of the steering wheel and an innovative voice-activated hands-free device are available. These features allow the drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel and interact with the instruments easily.

All trim levels also include an instrument panel with a new 7-inch user-configurable multiview display, with TFT liquid crystal technology. Exclusive feature of the top-of-the-range Summit model is a nineteen-speaker, 825-watt Harman Kardon surround sound audio system. 6F24 six-speed PowerTech automatic transmission

Available for the first time on most 2014 Jeep Compass models is the 6F24 six-speed automatic transmission. Independently developed by PowerTech, the new automatic transmission has been refined for application to the 2014 Jeep Compass. Compact, lightweight and fully electronic, the new six-speed automatic transmission was designed for improved performance, ensuring smooth and precise shifting and increased driving pleasure.

New six-speed automatic transmission will be mated to the 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter I-4 engines producing respectively 156 and 170 horsepower.

With a 0.77 sixth gear, engine rpm is significantly reduced at highway speeds for optimal fuel efficiency. The stepped shift schedule across all six gears is designed for optimal fuel economy in city driving as well. Customers will appreciate extremely quiet operation throughout the gear ranges with the use of noise-resistant gears that effectively reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
